Boodles commits to using Single Mine Origin gold in its jewellery

Betts Group is working in partnership with luxury jeweller, Boodles, to offer Single Mine Origin (SMO) gold in its jewellery.

Sourced from the Yanfolila gold mine in Mali, SMO certified gold provides an auditable chain of custody for the entire supply chain, with full segregation from mine to finished product.

SMO gold must also adhere to a number of strict CSR guidelines and be mined in accordance with the World Gold Council’s Responsible Gold Mining Principles.

Batch codes and QR codes give Boodles customers a direct link to the source of the metal used in their purchase, as well as giving an insight into the impact each purchase has helped to create through community and environmental projects.

Most gold is complex to trace, in part because gold in jewellery is typically melted together from a variety of sources.

In partnership with Hummingbird Resources, Betts Group controls the entire process from production at the mine, smelting and refining right through to delivering the gold to jewellers.

Charlie Betts, managing director Betts Group, said: “It’s hugely exciting to be at the forefront of creating fully traceable, responsibly-sourced gold and we believe it is a real ‘game-changer’ for the trade. We know that consumers are increasingly concerned about the provenance of the products they buy. Every gram of SMO gold is documented and audited, which will give people confidence that their jewellery is from a responsible source.”

Boodles added: “We are delighted and extremely proud to be using SMO gold in our jewellery designs.”
