The Betts Group launches AgAIN silver, recycled from medical X-ray film

Again Silver recycled medical x-ray

The UK’s oldest surviving precious metal refining and dealing business is launching AgAIN silver, which is recycled from medical X-ray film. This silver is refined in total segregation from any other material.

Sustainability is central to precious metals expert, the Betts Group, which launched fully traceable Single Mine Origin gold for the jewellery industry and investors in 2018. With AgAIN silver, the Betts Group is expanding its industry-leading offering of responsibly sourced precious metal options.

AgAIN silver helps hospitals across the UK to earn money from old X-rays which would normally be stored or sent to landfill, costing trusts a great deal of money and wasting resources. A video explaining the journey the silver takes from X-ray to finished product is available to view on the Betts website.

Every element of the X-ray is recycled, minimising the carbon footprint of this silver. Jewellers have the advantage of knowing where their silver is sourced from, and the confidence of a truly sustainable supply.

Managing director of the Betts Group, Charlie Betts, said:

“We’re really excited to launch AgAIN silver.

With AgAIN silver we’re recycling a product that was previously going to landfill and giving customers absolute confidence about that material. We can turn the silver we recover into whatever products our customers require, whether they need grain, sheet, wire, or wedding rings.

One of our main focuses is on material provenance and recycling, and it’s about how we can develop those processes and transparency within the trade to take things further forward.”

Founder of Angharad, Meghan Griffiths, said:

“As a jeweller who is striving to be as sustainable as possible, the fact that silver recycled from medical X-ray film is now being used in the jewellery I’m making is so exciting.”
